Coaching Milestones of 2010 Clinicians
Lew Johnston – Head Coach Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, VA
Coach Lew was at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake for 22 years compiling 163 victories, 5 Southeastern District Championships, 1 Eastern Region Championship, and owned a 32 game winning streak at one point. In his first year at NSA he led the Saints to a 6-4 record. He finished on a 6 game winning streak outscoring his opponents 237-46 utilizing his vaunted Wing-T Attack. Lew has published a book, 101 Little Things That Can Make A Big Difference and has also produced numerous DVD’s on the Wing-T for Championship Productions.
Brad Bradley – Head Coach Amelia High School, VA
In his first season at Amelia, Coach Bradley led the Raiders to the Class A Division 2 State Semi-finals while averaging 32.2 points from his Spread attack. Coach Bradley has also had head coaching stints at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, VA and William Campbell High School. While at WCHS, utilizing his Spread attack, Coach Bradley led the Generals to Class A Division 1 State Championships in 2002 and 2005.
Jeff Woody – Head Coach Brookville High School, VA
Since 2007, utilizing his No Huddle Spread attack, Coach Woody has led the Bees to an impressive 57-10 record. He captured 3 Class AA Region III Division 3 Championships, finished as the Class AA Division 3 State Runner-up in 2008, and this past season Coach Woody captured the Class AA Division 3 State Championship.
Rick Darlington – Head Coach Apopka High School, FL
Coach Rick Darlington is currently in the midst of his second stint as head coach at Apopka High School which plays in the 8A Classification in Florida. Coach Darlington’s 10 year record at Apopka is an amazing 96-27. While at Apopka, the Blue Darters Single Wing attack has captured 5 District Championships to go with 3 Regional Championships. In 2001, Coach Darlington and the Blue Darters captured the Florida State Championship marking the first such title for an Orange County Public School.
Glenn McNew – Ret. Head Coach Morgantown High School, WV
Coach McNew retired in 2002 after 36 years of coaching, 29 as a Head Coach. Coach McNew qualified for the playoffs 18 times during that span leading Morgantown High School to 3 State Semi-final appearances, one State Runner-up finish, and he captured two State Championships. Once he installed his Jet Package with a four wide passing series his teams went 71-7. His team boasted a 39-2 record once he installed his unique version of the 4×4 (31 Defense).
Jim Bob Bryant (HC) and Caleb King (DC) – Havelock High School, NC
After four years at the helm of the Rams, utilizing his Multiple Shotgun TAG Offense and stifling 3-4 defense, Coach Bryant has put together an impressive 48-10 record. This past year Coach Bryant led the Rams to a record setting year compiling a 16-0 record and capturing the Class 3A State Championship in impressive fashion. During the Rams 5 game playoff season, they outscored their opponents 276-56 averaging 55.1 points per game utilizing the TAG Offense. Throughout the course of the season, the Rams outscored their opponents 811-214.
Adam Fortune – Defensive Coordinator Tuscarora High School, VA
Coach Fortune’s defensive unit led the Huskies to a 9-3 record and the playoffs in just their second season of football. Coach Fortune was also the DC for Broad Run High School during their back-to-back Class AA Division 4 State Championship season in 2008 and 2009. His defensive unit is known for being very fundamentally sound and relentless in their pursuit of the football. He will discuss several unique practice drills that they utilize to create the desire to run to the ball.
Chris Miller – Head Coach James F. Byrnes High School, SC
Coach Miller just completed his fifth season as the Head Coach of the Byrnes Rebels compiling an astounding 67-8 record over that span. Under his guidance, the Rebels “Strike Force” Defense has led the Rebels to one State Runner-up finish in 2009 and four State Championships in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011. His 2007 squad finished 13th in the final USA Today Top 25 Rankings. His 2008 and 2009 squads finished 8th and 9th respectively in the final MaxPreps Top 25 Rankings. Coach Miller will be discussing his Byrnes Program and his Strike Force Defense.
Tim Cromer – Head Coach Christiansburg High School, VA
Coach Cromer is in his 26th year as a high school football coach. Christiansburg has compiled a 75-43 record in 10 years under Coach Cromer’s leadership. Since implementing the Jet Offense, Christiansburg has gone 35-7 the last three years, winning the River Ridge District Championship in 2010 and 2011 and the Division 4 Region IV Championship in 2009, 2010, and 2011. This season, Coach Cromer added the Pistol formation to his Jet Package and led the Blue Demons to a Class AA Division 4 State Runner-Up finish averaging 37.2 points per game.
Bob Christmas – Head Coach North Hall High School, GA
While serving as the head football coach at four different high schools, Christmas has laid the foundation for solid programs which resulted in winning seasons and state appearances. During a five year run at Jefferson Forest High School in Forest, Virginia, Christmas compiled a record of 59 – 16, led the team to three state championship appearances and two consecutive AA State Championship titles in 1992 and 1993. Over the last eight years, he rebuilt the dilapidated program at North Hall HS, leading the team to a 68 – 24 record, three Region 7 AAA Championships, and a final four appearance in the Georgia Dome in 2007.
